For me, a tattoo is a transformative action, a symbol of who we are and what we have accomplished in our being. I am not tattooed as of yet, but in light of the many changes in my life that have recently taken place, I wanted to explore my tattoo design further while expressing my personal evolution this year. This painting is a reflection of my progress, a symbol for becoming the person I wanted to be.
Process: The rose is 3-dimensional. Certain petals were handmade with Super Sculpey, baked and then glued on. Afterwards, the rose was oil painted (my first one, yay). The colorful “wing” tendrils are watercolor, and the line drawing was made with black and white ink respectfully. You can view detail shots on my website/tumblr (link below).
